Covid & National Cannabis Day 2021

We’re less than two weeks away from the next big holiday on 4/20/21 so it’s time to solidify some plans. National Cannabis Day is coming up, and people worldwide will be acknowledging and celebrating the magical ancient plant. Unfortunately, we are still fighting COVID-19, and the world is not entirely clear of the pandemic. April 20th should be a social celebration, but at this time, that could still be risky. Fret not, as there are plenty of ways to still celebrate National Cannabis Day in 2021.

What Happens on 420?

Usually, on 4/20, there are in person festivals, parties, and rallies across the world. People meet up to show appreciation for the plant in all of its forms and uses. It’s also a day that many help to raise awareness of the health benefits of cannabis and push for its further legalization. These gatherings and marches bring awareness to the plant’s potential but also bring masses of people together.

Because the Coronavirus Crisis Isn’t Over

This year according to the experts, including the CDC and WHO, we should still be taking precautions to prevent the coronavirus spread. It spreads through the inhalation of respiratory droplets from one person to another. The spreading occurs by breathing someone else’s air, cough, sneeze, or even smoke in through the mouth or nose directly or when that air is circulated indoors through the air conditioning. Therefore exhaling into the air or sharing drinks could pass the virus from one person to another. This year, many international meetups are canceled since they bring too many people in close contact and encourage this sharing of respiratory droplets. Any gatherings, including having friends over for a house party, could be dangerous and are still not recommended.

Do This Instead

4/20 is a day to celebrate cannabis and have fun with those who also enjoy it. Therefore to be safe, at least for this year, take the party virtually. It’s easy to do a group video call and spend an hour or two with friends remotely. Order pizza simultaneously, play music together, or even watch your favorite movies while on a video call to be safe but social. Online gaming is another great way to enjoy cannabis, kill some hours and still enjoy each other’s company without risking getting anyone sick. Plus many of the usual events are going virtual so you can watch them from home. To spread awareness, hit social media with some facts about the benefits of cannabis or a personal story of how it can help.

Safe, Not Sorry

The bottom line is: have fun, enjoy cannabis, and spend time with others while staying safe enough to meet up in person and celebrate it next year. People are getting vaccinated right now worldwide, and likely by next April, the virus will be under control. Take this year to push for more open-mindedness towards cannabis online, or just order in and rewatch all your favorite movies.
